Diogo de Orta (Garcia de Orta´s nephew) was arrested on the 25th January, 1597 and sentenced by the Inquisition on the 31st of January, 1599, accused of being a Jew. In this file we can see some cotton tissue from India on which he wrote about his prison conditions. Orta tried in vain to pass this information outside. The ink is made from vinegar and candle soot.
